Fawaz A. Gerges (b.1958, Beirut, Lebanon, lives and works in London, UK) is a Professor of Middle Eastern Politics and International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He also holds the Emirates Chair of the Contemporary Middle East, and is the Director of the Middle East Centre at LSE. Gerges has taught at Oxford, Harvard and Columbia Universities, was a research scholar at Princeton and is a chairholder (the Christian A. Johnson Chair in Middle Eastern Studies and International Affairs) at Sarah Lawrence College, New York. Gerges is the author of numerous books and publications, including: Journey of the Jihadist: Inside Muslim Militancy (2007) and The Far Enemy: Why Jihad Went Global (2005).
