Saskia Sassen (b.1949, The Hague, the Netherlands, lives and works in New York, USA) is the Robert S. Lynd Professor of Sociology and Co-Chair, The Committe of Global Thought, at Columbia University. She is the author of many books on migration and transnational movement, including The Mobility of Labor and Capital: A Study in International Investment and Labor Flow (1988), The Global City: New York, London, Tokyo (1991), Globalization and Its Discontents: Essays on the New Mobility of People and Money (1998), Territory, Authority, Rights: From Medieval to Global Assemblages (2006) and A Sociology of Globalization (2008). She has received several honours and awards, most recently doctor honoris causa from each Delft University (Netherlands), DePaul University (USA) and Université de Poitiers (France).
