In collaboration with the American Scandinavian Foundation, OCA offers two studio grants – one for a Norwegian artist and one for a Norwegian curator – at the International Studio and Curatorial Program (ISCP) in New York City, in autumn 2010/spring 2011. The artist residency has the duration of 9 months, from 1 September 2010 until 31 May 2011. The Curatorial residency has the duration of 3 months, from 1 September until 30 November 2010. Only Norwegian citizens are eligible for these grants. Please notice that the residency is not available for BA or MA students. Applications will be assessed by an International Jury appointed by OCA.

The Residency

ISCP offers an artist and a curator an opportunity to work independently. Two collective exhibitions are held every year and during the programme there will be open studio sessions. ISCP receives regular visits from curators and gallery-owners, wishing to make contact with the artists/curators.

Terms

OCA provides a grant for the artist and for the curator. In addition, OCA supports the cost of the apartment for the artist. The artist will receive a grant of 112 500NOK from OCA. The artist must meet all other travel and living expenses. The curator will receive a grant of 70 000NOK from OCA. The curator must meet all other travel and living expenses including the rent for accommodation. The American Scandinavian Foundation covers the costs for the studios and the fee for the participation of the Artist residency and shares with OCA the costs for the studio and fee for participation of the Curatorial residency.

Current Resident

Artist residency 2009/2010

Lars Laumann
b.1975 in Brønnøysund, Norway

Lars Laumann is an artist based in Berlin and Oslo. He draws his inspiration from the outskirts of popular culture in the form of found texts, images and objects. By sampling and re-editing, he creates collages, books or videos. Mixing different media and techniques to create idiosyncratic worlds, the results are, at times, absurd and unsettling revelations of our collective modern mythologies. Recently his work has been shown at White Columns, Foxy Productions and MoMA in New York, USA; 5th Berlin Biennial in Berlin, Germany and in the summer of 2009 he will present new works at Trænafestivalen on the Island of Træna in North of Norway.
