International Support

Next Application Deadline: 1 November 2011

OCA is currently accepting applications for the Fourth Quarter Application Review for International Support. Forms are due 1 November 2011. Applications are accepted from Norwegian artists, international artists residing in Norway and non-profit entities. Priority is given to exhibitions taking place in key international art institutions and project spaces. Support is also extended to solo exhibitions and group exhibitions initiated by international curators as well as to Norwegian art professionals organising exhibitions and projects abroad.

Norway at La Biennale di Venezia 2011

´The State of Things' closing lecture: ´The Experience of Defeat' by T.J. Clark

---------------------------------------------------------------------

OCA presents a lecture by T.J. Clark, titled 'The Experience of Defeat', as part of Norway's official representation at La Biennale di Venezia. The lecture will take place on Thursday 17 November at 18:00, and is the closing lecture in the series 'The State of Things'.

The lectures are free and open to everyone. They are also available through live streaming and later archived on OCA’s website. A publication compiling all the papers will be published upon the completion of the programme in 2012.

Biennials

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Naoshi Okura, Project Director and Curator at VOID289, has invited Tammo Rist to present his work The Black Portrait there from 1 to 23 November 2011. Located under the elevated railway tracks in the old shopping district in the city of Kobe, VOID289 has been selected as one of the official competition programmes of the Kobe Biennale 2011, and is ‘a temporary space focusing on Scandinavian contemporary art’, according to the curator. The Black Portrait is part of Rist's ongoing 'Eruption Series' of paintings, which, according to the artist, 'incorporates a variety of artistic practices including performance, drawing, painting and sculpture'.

Solo Exhibitions and Projects

Västerås Konstmuseum, Västerås, Sweden, has invited artist Anne-Karin Furunes to hold a solo exhibition in the period 26 November 2011 to 12 February 2012. Since the artist’s public project Sara was inaugurated in the city centre last year, the museum has sought to develop an in-depth exhibition of her work. According to curator Åsa Grönlund, the exhibition ‘will focus especially on the large-scale, closely cropped images of faces taken from archival photographs’. Furunes also plans to produce a new work specifically for the exhibition.

Group Exhibitions and Projects

Anawana Haloba participates in the group exhibition 'The Global Contemporary–Art Worlds After 1989' at ZKM Museum of Contemporary Art in Karlsruhe, Germany. According to curator Andrea Buddensieg, the exhibition 'surveys the global economic and socio-political changes since 1989 and the way in which these changes are reflected in the art world'. In this thematic context, Haloba will present her work The Greater G8 Advertising Market Stand, which was produced by the artist at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam in 2007, and exhibited within 'Fare Mondi // Making Worlds. . .' at the 2009 Venice Biennale. The exhibition is on view until 5 February 2012.

Call for applications: the 18th International Studio Program of the ACC Galerie Weimar and the City of Weimar

The ACC Galerie Weimar and the City of Weimar are inviting artists to apply for the 18th International Studio Program, 'What Happened to God?', questioning the role of religion in the world today. Three artists will be selected to live and work in Weimar for four month periods starting in February, June and October of 2012. Application Deadline: 31 October 2011. Video Guerrilha mapping Festival S. Paulo 2011: Call for applications

Video Guerilha is a large urban intervention, based on Contemporary Monumental Image Projections, on building facades in São Paulo, Brazil. Contrary to indoor art exhibitions, Video Guerilha offers a city public space platform to artist collectives, art students and professionals worldwide. 2011 Jean-Claude Reynal Scholarship: Call for applications

The Jean-Claude Reynal Foundation, under the auspices of the Foundation of France, in collaboration with the Fine Arts School of Bordeaux, offers an annual grant of 10,000 EUR to enable a young artist, who works directly on paper, to travel to a country of his/her choice for a period of 6 months maximum. Candidates must be between 20 and 30 years of age and have had an artistic practice on paper for at least two years. All artists are eligible regardless of educational background or nationality. Henry Moore Institute Research Fellowships

The Henry Moore Institute is currently inviting applications for the Research Fellowship and the Senior Fellowships programmes in the period 2012–2013. Based in Leeds, the Henry Moore institute is a centre for the study of sculpture, comprising an exhibitions venue, research centre, library and sculpture archive. International Studio and Curatorial Program: Call for applications

The International Studio and Curatorial Program (ISCP) announces an open call for its residency program. Based in New York City, ISCP serves as an important platform for producing, presenting and contextualising contemporary art through a diverse range of international perspectives. ISCP is currently accepting applications from visual artists and curators in all disciplines who would like to engage with ISCP's programming and creative community. There is no deadline and the application review takes place once every two months. To apply, please visit ISCP's website.

Maria Moseng joins OCA as a Press Officer (Norway) (P/T)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Maria Moseng joins OCA as a Press Officer (Norway) (P/T). Moseng is a freelance film journalist, and holds a MA in film and aesthetics from the universities of Oslo and Copenhagen. Moseng has also worked in past years as a visiting seminar teacher at the Department of media and communication at the University of Oslo, and in art film production. She has also been involved of recent in managing an exhibition series at UiO titled 'History Forms My Revolution'.



Marthe Tveitan is leaving her position at OCA

Marthe Tveitan, Senior Production Coordinator at OCA, has accepted a position at the Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Oslo, starting on 22 October 2011. Marthe has been one of OCA's key members since she entered the organisation in 2008, and we wish her the best in her future career development. Antonio Cataldo is taking over her position as Acting Senior Production Coordinator. Cataldo holds an MA in in Visual Arts Studies from the universities of Naples and Venice. From 2008 to 2010 he was an Assistant Lecturer at the Iuav University of Venice. He has worked as an editor within Fondazione March, an Italian foundation for contemporary art based in Padua, Italy, and at the Graphic Design and Advertising Office of Fondazione La Biennale di Venezia in Venice. Since January 2011 he has been holding the position as OCA's Publications and Archive Manager.
