Heidi Nikolaisen and Anne Szefer Karlsen to participate in 'On Articulating Works and Places'
HEIDI NIKOLAISEN AND ANNE SZEFER KARLSEN TO PARTICIPATE IN 'ON ARTICULATING WORKS AND PLACES', IN THE CONTEXT OF THE ART IN MARRAKECH FESTIVAL, MARRAKECH, MOROCCO

Artist Heidi Nikolaisen and artist/curator Anne Szefer Karlsen have been invited by curator Abdellah Korroum to participate in the exhibition 'On Articulating Works and Places', in the context of the Art in Marrakech Festival (AiM), which takes place at several venues in Marrakech this winter. Within 'On Articulating Works and Places' Nikolaisen will exhibit Sofia – the Missing Link, a project consisting of video, photography, text and objects that is the result of an expedition to northern Norway where she investigated the construction of history throught personal histories. Szefer Karlsen has been invited to participate in the AiM opening conference and accompanying publication.
'On Articulating Works and Places' is the main exhibition within the third edition of AiM International Biennale. The biennial also has a literary programme, organised by Simon Prosser, Abdellah Taia and Alexandra Pringle, and a cinema programme organised in partnership with ESAV, École Superieure des Arts Visuels under the direction of Vincent Melilli, Alan Yentob and Stuart Comer. Over five days, the AiM Biennale will premiere works by Francis Alÿs, Yto Barrada and Loredana Longo. Attendees will also include artist and film-maker Julian Schnabel, film director John Boorman, writer Ahdaf Soueif, artist Isaac Julien and film director Faouzi Bensaidi among others.
About the Artists
Born in 1973, Heidi Nikolaisen lives and works as an artist in Bergen, Norway. Nikolaisen is a graduate of the Bergen National Academy of Arts, Norway, where she has also been an associate lecturer (2007-09). Recent and future solo exhibitions include Nordnorsk Art Centre, Svolvær, Norway (2011), 'By the Way Bergen', Norway (2006) and Gallery F15, Bergen, Norway (2004). Recent group exhibitions include 'Dualities – Norwegian Contemporary Photography at the Sol Mednick Gallery', Philadelphia, USA (2007); 'The Soldier, the Indian and the Old Man with a Broken Heart', Galleri Kjuhb, Cologne, Germany (2006) and 'A Place in the Sun', County Museum, Murmansk, Russia (2005).
Born in 1976, Anne Szefer Karlsen lives and works as an artist and curator in Bergen, Norway. Her recent curatorial projects include multiple exhibitions and event series with Flaggfabrikken Center for Photography and Visual Art (2004, 2007, 2008), TempoSkien, a temporary sculpture park in Bryggeparken (Skien, Norway 2008), the travelling exhibition 'Return Flight' (2006-07), and 'Individual Communities' (locations in New York and Romania, 2006). As well as many catalogues, her writing includes articles for publications such as Kunstjounalen B-Post, Replikk no. 21, and Kunsthåndverk. She was a member of the Artistic Board and curator for Kunstnarposjekt Suidal (Suidal, Norway, 2007, 2008). She lives and works in Bergen, Norway.
Nikolaisen and Szefer Karlsen participation within 'On Articulating Works and Places' has been made possible through 03–funds. The purpose of the 03–funds, as allocated by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to OCA, is to further develop cooperation and professional networking between OCA and the constituency of artists, independent cultural producers and organisations that are located in designated countries or associated with 03–countries. This includes but is not limited to professional research visits by cultural producers, artists and curators, short-term residencies for cultural producers and artists, and the development of seminars, conferences, art projects, workshops, etc. that focus on the further development of professional exchange and networking between and among countries, project development and pilot projects on an international scale.
