The 6th Taipei Biennial
The 6th edition of the Taipei Biennial, curated by Manray Hsu and Vasif Kortun, a guest at OCA's International Visitor Programme (IVP) in April 2008, takes place between 13 September, 2008 and 4 January, 2009 at the Taipei Museum of Fine Arts, Taipei, Taiwan and in various sites throughout the city. This year's biennial originates from a constellation of correlated themes all connected to neo-liberal capitalist globalization. The threads of investigation in the exhibition, such as circumstances for immigrant and illegal labor, mobility and borders are processed and witnessed through do-it-yourself practices, individual stories, and humor. The curators have invited around 50 artists among them, Superflex, Allan Sekulaand Lara Almárceguia.
At the Taipei Museum of Fine Arts, Lene Berg will exhibit Stalin by Picasso, which has as its point of departure an old dispute about Picasso's portrait of Stalin with a moustache and feminine features. According to curator Kristine Jærn Pilgaard, 'On one level, it (Stalin by Picasso) is about how two icons from the 20th Century, Stalin and Picasso, once were perceived and how much their public personas have changed since then. On another level, it is about art and artistic freedom, or un-freedom, and of ways of reading and using images, particularly images of so-called great men. But perhaps the most interesting aspect of this comical, and a bit sad, anecdote from the beginning of the Cold War, is how one simple charcoal drawing can initiate so many feelings, discussions and intrigues as this one did'.
Parallel programming includes a conference co-presented with the Dictionary of War; a film programme related to the themes of the exhibition co-hosted by the Urban Nomad Film Festival; and in collaboration with Taipei Drift, an International Workshop for Art Academics, 2008. Office for Contemporary Art Norway
The Office for Contemporary Art Norway is a private foundation and was founded by The Norwegian Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs and The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Fall 2001. The main aim of the Office for Contemporary Art Norway is to develop collaborations in contemporary art between Norway and the international art scene. The Office for Contemporary Art Norway aims to become a profiled contributor to the discourses of contemporary art.
*03–funding: The purpose of the 03-funds as allocated by the MFA to OCA is to further develop cooperation and professional networking between OCA and the constituency of artists, independent cultural producers, and organizations that are located in designated countries or associated with 03-countries. This includes but is not limited to "professional research visits by cultural producers, artists, and curators", "short-term residencies for cultural producers and artists", "the development of seminars, conferences, art projects, workshops, etc. that focus on the further development of professional exchange and networking between and among countries", "project development and pilot projects" on an international scale."
