Kjersti G. Andvig, Are Blytt, Ane Graff, Kim Hiorthøy and Magnus Vatvedt are participating in the group exhibition ‘Morgenrøde’ at VOID289 project space as part of the Kobe Biennale 2011. Curated by Naoshi Okura, freelance curator and artist, VOID289 was selected as one of the official competition programmes of the biennial, and is ‘a temporary space focusing on Scandinavian contemporary art’. Situated in the premises of a postwar black market furniture retailer, the space is located under the elevated railway tracks in the old shopping district in the city of Kobe. The curator says that he wanted to provide a platform introducing the younger generation of Norwegian artists that have been acknowledged for their innovative oeuvre. 'In the current art scene dominant trends no longer exist, allowing for the artists to work with a wide variety of techniques'. As part of 'Morgenrøde' Andvig will contribute with a sound and wall installation; Blytt will exhibit three paperworks installed on the floor; Graff will show two wood and fabric sculptures; Hiorthøy will participate with three watercolors; and Vatvedt will present a bleached linen painting. In addition, Okura will install a light installation. The title of the exhibition is inspired by 'early mornings out in the Norwegian nature', but it also refers to Burzum’s song Morgenroede, and Nietzsche’s book Morgenröte (The Dawn, 1881).
