Kristina Melbø Valvik’s curatorial practice entails selecting space for
projects with awareness of the audience’s experience in the room. Her
curatorial focus lies in the intersections between disciplines. Since
2016 she has worked with the nomadic art space and concept Prøverommet,
an independent entity beneath BIT Teatergarasjen in Bergen, Norway. Here
she has been involved with several artists in developing site-specific
work in unconventional spaces, and with that, boundaries have moved to
the public’s expectations for the experience of the art exhibition.

Kristina Melbø Valvika is curator and
coordinator of Prøverommet. She holds an MA in Theatre Studies with
specialization in scenography from the University of Bergen. Valvik has
also been giving guest lecturer in scenography at the University. She
also edits publications and works as a freelance producer for Bergen
based artists. Combining academic education with practical work Valvik’s
interests lies in using strategies from performing arts and theatre to
explore how curating itself can become staged, dramatized,
choreographed, and composed.
