INTERNATIONAL ARTIST RESIDENCY PROGRAMME AT WIELS CONTEMPORARY ART CENTRE, BRUSSELS
16 FEBRUARY 2009
In 2009, OCA introduces an open call for application for a Studio Residency for a Norwegian artist at the International Artist in Residency Programme at WIELS Contemporary Art Centre in Brussels.
The studio is granted for a period of 9 months: 1st April 2009 until 31st December 2009. The applicant must be a Norwegian citizen, artist residing in Norway or a Norwegian artist living and/or working abroad. The programme is designed for artists who have already elaborated a specific and promising aesthetic language but seek artistic, theoretical and professional support in order to develop their practice. Please note that the programme is not available for art students. The residency is accompanied by a programme of weekly meetings with other professional artists and local academics, along with field trips, as well as monthly studio visits by guest curators and critics such as Mai Abu el Dahab (Artistic Director Objectif Exhibition, Antwerp), Nicolaus Schafhausen (Artistic Director Witte de With, Rotterdam), Frédéric Desimpel (Gallery, Brussels), Denis Gielen (Critic, Brussels), Thierry De Duve (Art Historian) among others. The artists will also have the opportunity to present their work to the public on organized open studio days. The programme includes a two-day workshop in partnership with Halle 14, Leipzig (Germany) & Maumaus, Lisbon (Portugal).
During the residency, the recipient will take part in a collective exhibition organized by WIELS Contemporary Art Centre and by the end of the session, an online archive of the artist work will be included in the residency blog.
The recipient will be selected by members of the OCA Jury, together with a representative from WIELS Contemporary Art Centre, Brussels.
In addition to the Grant that includes both Studio (located within WIELS Contemporary Art Centre) and the programme, OCA will secure the rental of an apartment to be coordinated by WIELS and a Grant of 4 000 NOK for travel expenses and a monthly stipend of 6 000 NOK to cover living expenses.
Following the Grant, the Grant-holder is expected to write a brief report to the Office for Contemporary Art Norway about his or her stay.
