An Open call for Applications for
A New International Residency At
Capacete, in Rio de Janeiro
and in São Paulo, Brazil

In 2009, OCA introduces a new residency programme for artist, independent curator, cultural producer or independent art critic with Norwegian citizenship residing in Norway or abroad at Capacete, a forum and interdisciplinary project operating in Rio de Janieiro since 1998.
About The Residency
Throughout the four-month residency, Capacete's Director Helmut Batista will devise a programme of meetings and visits together with the selected recipient to promote a platform for intercultural debate and to strengthen a dialogue with the Brazilian arts scene. Capacete's network of collaborations includes Museu da República in Rio de Janeiro and academic institutions such as UERJ (University of the State of Rio de Janeiro) and UFRJ (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro). Capacete will also organize a series of workshops and resident presentations during the residency.
OCA will provide accommodation in an apartment shared with two other residents for a total residency period of 4 months, from 1 September 2009 to 25 December 2009, divided between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, with a two-month stays in each city. In addition, OCA will provide the resident with a grant of NOK 16.000 for travel expenses to be allocated for a round trip ticket from Norway to Brazil, for round trip travel from Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo, and a monthly stipend of NOK 9.000 for living expenses.
Applicants must be artists, independent curators, cultural producers or independent art critics with Norwegian citizenship residing in Norway or living and/or working abroad. Please note that the residency is not available for BA or MA students. The recipient will be selected by members of the OCA Jury, together with a representative from Capacete, Brazil.
Following completion of the residency, the resident will be required to submit a report to the Office for Contemporary Art Norway about his or her stay.
