Kurt Johannessen to participate in International Festival of Performance Art Navinki and Guangzhou Live

KURT JOHANNESSEN TO PARTICIPATE IN

INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF PERFORMANCE ART NAVINKI

GUANGZHOU LIVE – INTERNATIONAL ACTION ART FESTIVAL

Kurt Johannessen has been invited by curator Victor Petrov to participate in the 2010 edition of the International Festival of Performance Art Navinki – an annual international performance festival in Minsk, Belarus. Within this twelfth edition of the festival, Johannessen presents new performance-based work. Among other exhibiting artists are Anna SyczewskaElisa Andessner and Katnira Bello.

In December 2010 Johannessen will participate in Guangzhou Live – International Action Art Festival, taking place at the 53 Art Museum in Guangzhou, People's Republic of China. During Guangzhou Live, which takes place at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (GAFA) and features panel discussions, lectures and workshops as well as performances, Johannessen will present new performance works. Other participating artists include Brian ConnollySylvette BabinGiovanni Fontana and Christina Oiticica.

About the Artist

Kurt Johannessen (b.1960 in Bergen, Norway, lives and works in Bergen) has produced a wide range of works spanning various mediums such as land art, performance, photography, video, drawings and text-based works, using the avant-garde tradition of the 1960s as a reference point for close to thirty years. Johannesen is a graduate of Slade School of Fine Art, London, UK, the Iceland Academy of the Arts, Reykjavik, Iceland, and the National Academy of the Arts, Bergen, Norway. Recent exhibitions include 'Kurt Johannessen', Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo, Norway; and 'Kurt Johannessen: Installation Video Performance', Bergen Art Museum, Bergen, both in 2007.

Johannessen's participation in Guangzhou Live – International Action Art Festival has been supported by O3–funds as underwritten by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for enhancing collaboration in the contemporary art field with professional artists in countries designated by the MFA. The purpose of the O3–funds as allocated to OCA is to further develop cooperation and professional networking between OCA and the constituency of artists, independent cultural producers, and organisations that are located in designated countries.
