Amar Kanwar lives and works in New Delhi, India. His recent exhibitions include: Experiments with Truth at Fabric Workshop Museum in Philadelphia (05); Populism (05) at The Contemporary Art Centre in Vilnius, Lithuania, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Netherlands and the Frankfurter Kunstverein in Frankfurt, Germany; Patriot at Baltimore Museum of Contemporary Art (05); In Progress at Locarno International Film Festival (04); Lofoten International Art Exhibition (04);Diverge - Crossing Generations in Mumbai (04); Selves Made Strange - New perspectives from India at the House of World Cultures in Berlin (04) and screenings at the Museum of Modern Art in New York (04).

Kanwar has participated in the Documenta XI, the 10th Biennial of Moving Images at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Geneva and exhibited at the Fri-Art Centre d'art Contemporain Kunsthalle in Switzerland; KalaGhoda Art Festival in Mumbai;Other India's - Breaking the Code at Whitechapel Art Gallery in London and Werkleitz Biennale; A Historical Retrospective - 50 years of Oberhausen, Germany. His solo exhibitions have been at the Tensta Konsthall in Stockholm and The Renaissance Society in Chicago.

Amar Kanwar has also received the Golden Gate Award (San Francisco International Film Festival); Golden Conch (Mumbai International Film Festival); Golden Orange Award (Antalya International Film Festival); Golden Tree (National Environment & Wildlife Film Festival, India); The First Prize (Torino International Film Festival. Italy); Jury's Award (Film South Asia, Nepal); Grand Prix (EnviroFilm, Slovak Republic) and the Mac Arthur Fellowship in India.
